Common Habits that Could Lead to a Nail Fungal Infection

The last thing you want is a fungal infection on your nails. It might seem fine and harmless, but it’s very painful. You might even have to bear the pain for several days before it heals. There are reasons why you end up with fungal infections, and they have something to do with your terrible habits.

Sharing shoes

Just because you share a similar shoe size with your sibling and you have the same fashion taste doesn’t mean you should share a pair of shoes. You don’t know if your sibling has a fungal infection. The bacteria on their feet could get transferred to yours. If it’s a recurring activity, it could be harmful to both of you.

Wearing shoes even when they’re wet

You decided to wash your shoes. The problem is that the next day, they’re still wet. Even if you need to wear your shoes, you shouldn’t wear them. Otherwise, you will have increased chances of having a fungal infection. Bacteria love damp areas. Your feet could be their next home. Wait until the shoes dry or use a different pair.

Walking barefoot

Some people recommend walking barefoot on the ground to be connected with nature. It might be a good practice for mindfulness, but it’s terrible for your feet. You can only walk barefooted if you’re certain that the ground is clean. Otherwise, you have to keep your footwear on at all times.

Sharing nail cleaning tools

You have to be sure that you’re only using clean nail tools. They should be sterilized before every time you use them. Otherwise, you could get an infection. When you want to get your nails done in a salon, check if the tools are clean and sterilized before moving ahead with the process.

Ignoring that tiny pain on your feet

If you feel something wrong with your feet, you need to do something about it. You need to check it at least and find an immediate remedy. Don’t wait until the problem gets worse before doing anything. If you can get fungal nail infection treatment at the earliest stage, it would be better. If you keep ignoring it, the infection could spread and affect other areas. Instead of quickly healing, it will take much more time if left unattended.

Again, this small and non-threatening infection isn’t necessarily the worst thing that could happen to you. However, it’s still painful, and you won’t want to deal with it. Therefore, it’s time for you to check your habits and change them.

Hygiene is important, and it involves your entire body. Check the products you use and be aware of your surroundings. Don’t hesitate to see a doctor if you have serious pain. Sometimes, a problem you deem as a fungal infection might be something else. It’s better if you can let your doctor check what’s wrong, to provide the correct medication. Don’t rely on herbal medicines or home remedies. They might not be enough to treat the problem.
