Alternative Ways to Stay Cool In Summer

All last winter when the cold winds were blowing and the snow was piling up outside, you couldn’t wait for summer to arrive. Well, now summer is here and it brought not only blistering temperatures but sky-high electric bills with it as well. Instead of starting on your refrain of “I can’t wait for winter,” do some research and discover a few alternative ways to stay cool when the temperatures are climbing into the triple digits.

Find some outdoor activities.

You don’t have to get out and do a ton of walking to figure out things to do during the summer months. Instead, grab your computer and browse a site like Avalon Gallery to get tips on places to see and places to be when you can’t stand being cooped up inside for a moment longer, but it’s too hot to do things outside. Do your research from the cool air of your home, then go out and have some fun.

Compare energy rates.

While many states don’t offer you options when it comes to utility companies, some states you do allow you to choose your utility provider. If your electric bills are through the roof during the summer months, consider switching electric companies to get better electric rates. Considering how much you’ll be running your AC unit, it makes sense to have an electric plan that doesn’t bankrupt you, and finding the right energy provider is the first step towards a lower electric bill.

There’s an energy provider out there that will help you lower your electric bills. It’s best if you go to a reputable site where you can compare electricity rates through and choose the right energy provider for your budget. You can also do this from the comfort of your couch as well, making it even better, since you don’t have to offer the heat to while you find a great electric plan.

Install a swimming pool.

Who doesn’t dream of having a backyard pool when the you feel like you’re melting? Luckily, there are swimming pool builders Tampa services out there that would love to help you install a backyard swimming pool. There’s nothing better than taking a dip in your very own custom pool with a gorgeous pool design and some unique water features when the weather is steaming outside. Don’t forget that since it’s your own custom pool, you can take nightly swims as well. What’s not to love about that? A new pool will make the summer months way more enjoyable.

Use ceiling fans or free-standing fans.

Fans have been around for a long time, and they draw much less electricity than air conditioning units do. It’s not as hard as you might think to cool down a room with a fan. There are different kinds of fans you can use as well, not just your classic box fans. Whether you’re using free-standing fans, ceiling fans, or whole house fans you can save on utility costs just by opting for this low-energy option. While fans might not make it possible for you to forgo air conditioning altogether, they’ll work well for those days that are just a little bit cooler than average.

Open your windows at night.

Once the sun goes down and the temperature starts to drop, you can open your windows to let the cooler air circulate throughout your home. It’s important to make sure that the screens on your windows are secure, and have no holes, cracks or tears in them when you use this option, however. There are many pests and insects that would love to fly through the window and feast on the blood of the inhabitants of your home, some of these carry diseases, so make sure the screens are intact before opening the windows to the night air.

These are just a few of the best alternative ways to stay cool this summer season, other than keeping your air conditioner going full blast and racking up a huge energy bill. Try a few of them and see how they work for you.
